What if I am not feeling well on the day of my appointment?

Please contact us if you have any new symptoms of respiratory or gastro-intestinal illness when you are scheduled for an appointment. We will be glad to switch to a virtual appointment (if appropriate) or reschedule your appointment for a later date when you are feeling better.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No, a referral from your doctor is not required for most services. We will accept referrals from individuals, family members, or other health and education providers. 

Do you have evening or weekend hours?

Most of our services are provided during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm). There are some situations in which we may provide a specific service in the evening or on the weekend. This can be discussed when scheduling your appointment.

Do you sell hearing aids?

Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia does not sell hearing aids but we can help you understand what to look for when purchasing a hearing aid. An audiologist can help by conducting a thorough hearing test and give you professional advice about whether or not a hearing aid or assistive device is the right treatment. 

Where can I get advice on whether to purchase an iPad or apps for my family member?

We can assist you in determining whether current technology (such as the iPad) may be a good-fit for addressing the communication needs of your family member. Speech-Language Pathologists take into consideration the individual's communication needs and skills, as well as a number of other factors and determine what technology is best.

Is French Immersion an option for a child with speech-language difficulties

French immersion can be an option for a child with speech and language difficulties. It is recommended that you consult with a speech-language pathologist on whether French immersion is a good fit for your child and what services will be needed to support the primary and secondary languages as your child transitions to school.
