Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia respectfully acknowledges that we live and work in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This land is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship,” which were first signed between the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqey, and Peskotomuhkati Peoples and the British Crown in the 1700s.
We recognize that these treaties did not involve the surrender of land and continue to be living agreements that guide our relationships today.
As a province-wide organization, we are committed to listening, learning, and working in partnership with Indigenous communities to support respectful, culturally safe, and accessible services across Mi’kma’ki.
We honour the Mi’kmaq People and their enduring connection to the land, water, and culture, and we commit to reconciliation through action.
